Geelong star Bailey Smith’s ‘hilarious’ team song gaffe
Bailey Smith might be starring on the field, but he still has work to do off it after showing he still hasn’t learned a simple Geelong tradition.

Geelong stormed home to stun the Crows by 19 points to kick off the AFL’s Gather Round in an impressive effort at Adelaide Oval.
The only real hiccup might have been Bailey Smith’s attempt to sing the team song after the 18.11 (119) to 15.10 (100) triumph.

The blond superstar is in his first season at the Cattery following five seasons with the Western Bulldogs.
While Geelong has won three of its opening five clashes, the 24-year-old Smith still hasn’t learned the song, judging by his sheepish look when standing arm in arm with his teammates in Adelaide.

“Plenty of smiles in the Geelong room,” Sarah Jones said on Fox Footy right after the song was belted out in the dressing room.
“(But) I’m not entirely sure Bailey Smith knows all the words to that song yet.”
Jason Dunstall had noted the same thing, replying: “We looked at each other at the same time and went ‘Bailey Smith doesn’t know the words’. Hilarious.
“But he will because they’re going to sing it often and he was a massive part of what they did.
“This was just super impressive, they are a hell of a football club.”
The Cats won’t care too much about the team song if Smith keeps performing the way he is in his new colours.
He tallied 35 possessions, six clearances and a goal to be one of Geelong’s best as the Cats rallied from a 30-point deficit to grab the four points.
Fellow midfielder Max Holmes, who was also among the visitors’ better performers with 32 touches, seven tackles and six marks, wasn’t so forgiving of his new teammate.
Told by Fox Footy about the team song gaffe, Holmes replied: “You’re kidding? It’s a pretty basic song.
“I don’t know how you couldn’t know that.”
On the field, a four-goal blast by former favourite son Patrick Dangerfield spoiled Adelaide’s Gather Round party, gutsy Geelong storming home to score the come-from-behind win.
The Cats soaked up the early pressure then slammed on the first four goals of the final term to set up the impressive victory.
The Cats refused to succumb when facing a five-goal deficit in the second term, launching a furious fightback either side of the halftime break, taking the lead after Ollie Dempsey soared high midway through the third quarter and kicked a goal from close range.
The visitors trailed by eight points at the last change, but hit the front for good with back-to-back goals to Jeremy Cameron, who also booted four, with Dangerfield adding his third and fourth to break the home fans’ hearts.
A fortnight out from his 35th birthday, Taylor Walker turned back the clock with a stunning goal to open proceedings.
With fans still settling into their seats, Tex deftly gathered a James Peatling pass on the bounce just inside 50, sent Mark Blicavs the wrong way with a brilliant baulk, then turned on the afterburners and snapped a brilliant running goal off his left boot.
Walker turned provider when he handballed onto Izak Rankine’s boot for another goal and effortlessly stroked home his second from 55m in the second term.
After a strong start, however, the Crows wilted as Geelong assumed control.
