HOW is your team shaping up after Round 6?
Jon Anderson looks at every team and gives his expert opinion on the upcoming games.
1. NORTH MELBOURNE 6-0-0, 124.9%, 24 points
The Kangaroos have almost reached a stage when they can start to rest although St Kilda isn’t that game. Suspect their last two weeks have been close to their max and buckle the seatbelts.
2. GEELONG 5-0-1, 174.7%, 20
They now have percentage (174.7) and more rest into key defensive players (Henderson, Kolodjashnij, Lonergan and Mackie) than any rival. Shane Kersten was quick and clean.
3. SYDNEY SWANS 5-0-1, 144.0%, 20
In terms of a certain medal, Luke Parker’s goals are what may separate him from Hannebery and Kennedy. You get the impression this outfit wants to prove a few early-season doubters wrong.
4. WESTERN BULLDOGS 4-0-2, 155.8%, 16
Why continually bring the ball in down the line or centre it when the opposition is set up for that line of attack? Ultimate glory will go missing unless the inside 50 riddle is solved.
5. GWS GIANTS 4-0-2, 140.8%, 16
Thank you for giving us another year of the extremities that define a genius named Steve Johnson. Will they make the eight? You bet. Top four? Probably. Flag? Possibly.
6. WEST COAST EAGLES 4-0-2, 130.4%, 16
One Fox commentator suggested early it could be a 100-point flogging. Winning in Perth is one thing, winning on the road another ball game. Kardinia Park awaits.
7. ADELAIDE 4-0-2, 122.0% 16
To challenge they will require Taylor Walker to lift from what has only been an OK season to date. Playing the Dogs at Etihad next Saturday night will resemble a game of pinball.
8. HAWTHORN 4-0-2, 91.8% 16
Their pride will ensure some fight yet but a seriously sick percentage of 91.8 makes the top four more difficult. They were beaten in run so Isaac Smith and Bradley Hill must share the blame.
9. MELBOURNE 3-0-3, 102.2%, 12
Superman had Kryptonite and the Demons have Etihad Stadium, hence horses for courses selection, plus an inability at this stage to focus solely on the week ahead.
10. GOLD COAST SUNS 3-0-3, 95.0%, 12
Maybe the constant talk of injury to key men has provided an excuse for some who didn’t relish the contest.
11. PORT ADELAIDE 3-0-3, 89.7% 12
Jasper Pittard has been good all year and tries his guts out, whereas Jared Polec is hot and cold. But his hot is full of run and disposal efficiency and vital to their game.
12. ST KILDA 2-0-4 88.5%, 8
To become a finals side you need a good ruckman. Tom Hickey, tick. You need plenty of midfield runners. Tick. And you need a composed and innovative coach. Tick. That reads tick, tick, tick.
13. COLLINGWOOD 2-0-4, 78.6%, 8
Mason Cox’s athleticism for his height is reminiscent of Paul Salmon. As for his Magpie teammates, their effort outweighed their abilities. Must regroup and win next two.
14. CARLTON 2-0-4, 73.5%, 8
Who would have thought one in a row becomes two in a row? Not sure about the aesthetics, but it’s all about learning how to win, ugly or beautifully
15. RICHMOND 1-0-5, 74.6%, 4
The most hurtful fact to their supporters are the number of teams that have gone past them like Usain Bolt. At some stage the board has to accept its share of responsibility.
16. BRISBANE LIONS 1-0-5, 70.8%, 4
This is going to be a rocky road but when they get their game going, it’s an exciting brand of football. They just have to show enough to suggest a vibrant future to a free agent.
17. ESSENDON 1-0-5, 61.9%, 4
That they even challenged for a second win says so much about this group of patched-up triers. Not sure what his best position is, but like what Mitch Brown can bring.
18. FREMANTLE 0-0-6, 69.1%, 0
Thought their effort was excellent and reckon they are a huge chance to get GWS on Saturday night. Matt Taberner is showing bits and pieces and Michael Barlow is back near 2013 form.
