Essendon is adamant key forward Joe Daniher will remain a Bomber in 2020 despite increasing speculation he is angling for a move to Sydney.
Speculation has been rife Daniher is entertaining a switch to the Harbour City since it was revealed he had met with Swans chief executive Tom Harley last month.
Bombers football manager Dan Richardson declared tonight: “He’ll be playing for Essendon next year”.
It came after Fox Footy reported Daniher wanted to join Sydney and was unhappy with how his groin issues have been handled.
Richardson denied the 25-year-old had any concerns with how he had been treated.
“He’s expressed to us he’s got full faith in our medical team and they’ve worked really hard with him,” he said.
“As far as we know, that’s the case.”
Richardson said Daniher had not requested a trade.
“The facts are he’s contracted next year. We’d fully expect he’s playing in an Essendon jumper next year,” he said.
He said Essendon was unaware why Daniher’s future had been the source of trade rumours.
“His rehab is progressing well, recovering well and training hard at the moment. He’ll be playing for Essendon next year,” he said.
Daniher has only managed 11 games in the past two years due to persistent groin injuries.
