Crows name Fischer McAsey, Port Adelaide picks Jackson Mead to feature for first time in clubs’ under-23 Showdown

The Crows and Port Adelaide have named their 28-man sides to play in Saturday’s under-23 Showdown. Plenty new draftees will feature and so will several players pushing for Round 1 selection.

Adelaide’s highest ever draft selection Fischer McAsey and Port Adelaide father-son pick Jackson Mead will front in their new clubs’ colours for the first time in Saturday’s under-23 Showdown.

The Crows on Thursday night named key defender McAsey, who they took at pick six last year, in their 28-man squad to face the Power at Thebarton Oval after he missed the club’s opening pre-season game against Melbourne.

Mead, who was sidelined for Port’s internal trial and win over Brisbane with a hamstring injury, was chosen on the ball.

Fellow 2019 draftees Harry Schoenberg, Josh Worrell, Ronin O’Connor, Lachlan Gollant (Crows), Dylan Williams, Trent Burgoyne and Jake Pasini (Power) will also line up.

Chayce Jones, Darcy Fogarty, Ned McHenry and Elliott Himmelberg are among the other youngsters in Adelaide’s side, while AFL regulars Kyle Hartigan, Paul Seedsman and Jake Kelly, and recruits Ben Crocker and Ben Keays will also get an opportunity.

Wayne Milera, Lachlan Murphy and Tyson Stengle will sit out after playing against the Demons.

For Port, Todd Marshall, Peter Ladhams Kane Farrell and Todd Marshall will all take to the field – a week on from battling Brisbane.

Veteran Brad Ebert has been named on the bench.

Mitch Georgiades and Miles Bergman are not playing.

The game starts at midday.
