With questions hanging overhead and their season said to be teetering on the brink, the banner appeared to follow suit.

As the Pies cheer squad raised the banner in preparation for the players to run through everything was perfectly fine.

Then disaster struck with the banner tearing away from one of the poles and leaving the cheer squad scrambling.

As the playing group strolled up the MCG race and onto the turf, they were confronted by a sad looking banner with the message on the front barely readable.

A second added : “Haha “side-by-side” and the banner is completely lopsided. Good on them for holding it up as best as they could.”

A third wrote: “Collingwoods banner is in shambles.”

A fourth added: “A botched Collingwood banner is always a good omen.”

Collingwood dropped a bombshell ahead of the clash against Port Adelaide by naming 405-game superstar Scott Pendlebury as their starting sub.

Footy fans couldn’t quite believe the announcement from the club in what many believe is a must-win clash.

The move however mattered little in the early going of the contest with the Pies hitting the ground running.

After conceding the opening goal, the Pies responded with the next four in promising signs for their fan base.
