Bailey Smith’s post-game sledge has hit a sore spot with some fans following Geelong’s three-point thriller against Collingwood on Saturday night.
The Cats star was among the most influential players on the ground as Geelong stormed home in the second half before hanging on for a 13.12 (90) to 12.15 (87) win to remember in front of 82,514 fans at the MCG.

However, it is Smith’s post-game behaviour that has attracted the most attention.
It comes as the social media star was also seen performing an eyebrow-raising gesture while posing for a photo with fans inside the Cats’ dressing room.
The former Bulldogs midfielder had earlier taken a cheeky swipe at his former club when speaking with Fox Footy’s Cameron Mooney after the final siren.
You can watch the sledge in the video player above.
The 24-year-old was asked how it felt to be playing in such a blockbuster game in front of such a big crowd and he couldn’t help himself after watching his former club thrash Port Adelaide in front of a crowd of 4,814 in Ballarat.
Smith replied with a grin: “Beautiful mate. Not getting that at Ballarat”.
Many footy commentators laughed off the swipe, but it stung plenty of football fans on social media with some describing the comment as “classless”.
As one of the biggest stars of the competition, Smith’s sledge became a hot topic all across cyberspace with some Bulldogs fans describing the sledge as “disrespectful”.
There were some that saw the funny side of it, with one fan posting on X: “Need more of this, harmless digs starting a rivalry”.
Smith was moved to Geelong in the final moments of last year’s trade deadline in a messy, turbulent negotiation between the two clubs.
Smith had played 103 games for the Dogs and played in the club’s premiership after being drafted with the seventh pick of the 2018 Draft.
“I’m very grateful to be where I am,” Smith said of the Cats taking him on, foxsports.com.au reports.
“They’ve welcomed me with open arms, so I’m just forever in debt to this club. So I’ll keep working my arse off to repay them.
“I’m doing what I love doing – and that’s competing, regardless if we win lose or draw.”
Smith has also raised eyebrows with a dressing room gesture he made when posing for a photo with fans.
The livewire footballer appeared to grab his crotch in a pose that had those around him giggling away.
The gesture comes after Smith was also spotted flipping off a spectator after the person was reported to have said vulgar things about teammate Patrick Dangerfield.
The AFL issued him a $1000 fine after the middle-finger gesture.
Smith just can’t get away from the headlines.
There was plenty more drama on Saturday night after the epic contest came down to a shot after the siren for Jack Crisp.
Crisp’s family were watching on as he broke the legendary Jim Stynes’ longstanding record, playing in his 245th consecutive match.
However, he did not get the fairytale finish when his shot for goal shanked to the right hand side of the goals.
In a controversial finish, Bobby Hill was penalised for a trip on Shaun Mannagh with just over two minutes left when he chased down the Cats forward.
The Pies then kicked a goal with 20 seconds left through Brody Mihocek, but they just fell short of a stunning comeback after Crisp’s late miss.
Crisp fronted up to Fox Footy after the game and talked about the ending.
“A lot’s going through my mind. I was feeling confident in my ability to kick the goal at the end there,” he said.
“But it wasn’t to be. After an emotional week, feeling the love from everyone, to finally finish the game out I’m pretty exhausted but credit to Geelong.
“I had lots of blokes telling me ‘this is what dreams are made of’, then it was just about routine.”
Crisp was then shown a replay as he talked, stating: “We practice these scenarios, here we go I’ll watch myself miss it and feel sad again.
“I got the distance easy, it was just about the accuracy.”
