AFLW: Britney Gutknecht faces one of the largest bans in AFLW history

Just last week the AFLW tribunal handed out the biggest suspension in the league’s history, now a Dogs midfielder could be facing a similar penalty. Watch and have your say.

Western Bulldogs midfielder Britney Gutknecht is facing one of the biggest suspensions in AFLW history.

Gutknecht’s brutal slam tackle on Sydney’s Paige Sheppard has been sent directly to the tribunal with a three-plus match loading.

Sheppard was completely blindsided after she received a handball and was looking downfield when Gutknecht came from behind and drove her into the centre of the Whitten Oval.

The Swans midfielder, who was penalised for dropping the ball, stayed down after the tackle and had to be helped from the ground by trainers.

Gutnecht was charged with rough conduct with the incident graded as careless, severe impact and high contact.

The Swans went on to win the game by 57 points, keeping their hopes of playing finals alive.

Last week, the tribunal handed out the longest ban in the league’s history, with Adelaide premiership defender Najwa Allen receiving a three-match suspension for a bump on Western Bulldogs player Kirsten McLeod.

In other MRP rulings GWS Giant Brodee Mowbray and Gold Coast Sun Lucy Single have been offered one-match bans for rough conduct.

North Melbourne midfielder Ash Riddell and Fremantle star Kiara Bowers can accept $100 fines for tripping, with early pleas.
