AFL considering delaying kick-ins in wake of Crows disaster

In the wake of the AFL’s concession of an error at the end of Saturday night’s Crows game, the league is reassessing its score review system, which could bring a dramatic on-field change.

The AFL is reassessing its score review system, which could lead to more time before a kick-in is taken to allow its officials in the ARC to properly assess each score.

In the wake of the league conceding Ben Keays’ shot should have been awarded as a goal at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night it is understood the AFL is moving quickly to review the system and implement any changes.

One of them is to give the score review system around eight seconds in which to decide whether there is a need to review a questionable behind.

Because Sydney quickly got the ball back in play at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night, as Keays and his fellow teammates celebrated what they thought was an important goal, it could not be brought back for a review.

While the AFL is understood to be moving quickly, it is unsure if any changes will come in for this weekend’s game or even for finals or the upcoming AFLW season.

Despite Adelaide’s fury at the circumstances in which the Crows’ finals chances were ended, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan defended the league’s ARC system – saying it was a human error.

The Crows have pushed for a review of the review system and will pursue changes to their travel schedule and fixturing to address what chairman John Olsen says will “remove the disadvantages that we have dealt with as a non-Victorian club for years”.
