Brisbane Lions 2002 premiership winner Aaron Shattock is fighting for life in hospital after he was crushed by an excavator when it rolled and trapped him underneath.

Emergency crews were called to Shattock’s home off Worongary Rd on the Gold Coast following reports he’d been trapped under the excavator about 12.50pm on Sunday.

It’s understood the 44-year-old had been driving the heavy machinery when it rolled, trapping him underneath.

Emergency services had to use a hydraulic rescue tool to free the former AFL player.

He was then rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital with severe and life-threatening chest injuries, where he remains in a critical condition.

Shattock debuted for Brisbane during the 2000 season.

The midfielder played 11 games for Power to add to the 57 he played at the Lions.

He retired from AFL in 2006 after playing 68 games for Brisbane and Port Adelaide.
