Shayda 'saved' Fadi Ibrahim after hit
FADI Ibrahim pledged to marry now wife Shayda after claiming she "saved my life" when he was shot five times in his Lamborghini in June 2009.
FADI Ibrahim pledged to marry now wife Shayda after claiming she "saved my life" when he was shot five times in his Lamborghini in June 2009.
The promise is contained in a statement made by a witness during a failed conspiracy to murder case against Fadi, his brother Michael Ibrahim and family associate Rodney "Goldie" Atkinson.
The three men were accused of conspiring to kill Ibrahim family rival John Macris.
The prosecution alleged that they mistakenly believed Macris was responsible for shooting Fadi.
Michael Ibrahim and the associate were acquitted by a jury in December while the DPP withdrew its charges against Fadi in February.
All the men maintained their innocence and their lawyers argued police had misunderstood their conversations.
The witness, known as W1, was a former Ibrahim family insider who gave evidence for the Crown.
W1 says in the statement that in the months after the shooting he travelled to Broken Hill with Fadi and other members of the Ibrahim clan to visit Michael Ibrahim who was serving a jail sentence for killing Robin Nassaur, 34.
According to the statement, Fadi told W1 that when he was shot by a still unknown gunman, "it's actually Shayda that saved my life ... As soon as I got shot she put pressure on my wound straight away and called the ambulance, she didn't panic or nothing."
In a later conversation where W1 asked if Shayda could be trusted, Fadi said: "Yeah, she'll be right, I'm gunna (sic) marry her."
In the document, W1 describes being accepted into the inner circle of the Ibra- him clan.
He said he was invited to Fadi's Castle Cove home and John's Vaucluse mansion.
While at the mansion he claimed to have had discussions about Michael and John Ibrahim financing developments around Sydney.
In his statement, W1 describes one visit to Broken Hill jail where Fadi first sees Michael after being released from hospital after recovering from his gunshot wounds.
Fadi is in a playful mood, springing from between two vending machines to sur- prise Michael.
The former Ibrahim insider was arrested in September 2009 and charged with being part of the alleged conspiracy to murder Macris.
He later gave police the statement and gave evidence in the trial.
No one has ever been charged with shooting Fadi Ibrahim.
