With this cigarette I thee wed
Uber rich couple Olivier Sarkozy and Mary-Kate Olsen apparently toasted their nuptials with bowls of cigarettes. Let’s hope the stinky, not to mention, carcinogenic cigarette does not sway back into vogue.
The bride is worth a squillion and the groom is the half brother of former President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy.
Already you are envisioning a flowing Givenchy bridal gown and Cristal champagne on tap and white truffle hors d’oeuvres.
When former Full House child star-come fashion dynamo, Mary-Kate Olsen, 29, swapped “I do’s” with banker Olivier Sarkozy, 46, last Friday, they apparently toasted their nuptials with a cigarette.
Or should I say lots of them. Bowls and bowls of them in fact.
It has been reported the reception was held at a private residence in Manhattan where the guests enjoyed cocktails and without a Nibble’s nut in sight, were not averse to lighting up instead.
Let’s assume, while the couples’ bank balance and social pedigree lends to a bridal spread in Vanity Fair, their nuptials have not lived up to refined hype known of “New York royalty”.
Olsen, together with her sister Ashley, has become the boho babe of the fashion world, teaming over-sized bags with loose tops and long, untamed hair.
The doe-eyed beauty is not stereotypical in her fashion choices or beaus, it seems, but even the hard-core cool crowd would’ve been thinking:
1. Are cigarettes the old/new craze? And;
2. Gee, I hope their marriage doesn’t go up in smoke.
Think about it, when was the last time you went to a wedding where the antipasto platter featured sliced salami and prosciutto and a selection of tobacco?
For every bridezilla who takes their cue from My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding with a cast of thousands, to those couple who run off to Vegas to bypass the hoopla (and expense), however your romance plays out is entirely your call.
It does seem though, that like Prada socks with sandals or Gucci Chewbacca-like footwear it is only when the cashed-up tells us something is swanky do we want to adapt to a trend.
While this wedding made headlines for all the wrong reasons, let’s hope the stinky, not to mention, carcinogenic cigarette does not sway back into vogue.
