What if Kylie’s baby aspires to more than fame?

BABY Stormi is already famous, with a photo of her breaking records on social media. But I hope Kylie Jenner’s daughter is allowed to follow her own path, writes Kerry Parnell.

Kylie Jenner documents the moment she gives birth

KYLIE Jenner’s baby Stormi might have broken the internet, but I hope she gets to break free of the Kardashian career plan.

For anyone who doesn’t Keep Up with the Kardashians, this week Kylie Jenner smashed Instagram records, not with her bare bum like half-sister Kim Kardashian, but because she shared a video of her newborn daughter Stormi.

Jenner you see, had taken the very un-Kardashian like decision to keep her pregnancy to rapper Travis Scott off social media and then deliver a surprise film of the nine-month journey after the birth.

The video To Our Daughter clocked up 45 million views on YouTube in three days and her Instagram photo of Stormi became the most-liked picture ever on the site, with 15.1 million likes in 24 hours.

This is Kardashian gold — the currency that keeps the social media tribe afloat.

Momager Kris Jenner was quick to hashtag her blessings. “Wow Kylie!! How incredible, this is the most-liked picture in the history of Instagram!! Thank you everyone for the outpouring of love for our precious Stormi! #blessed #stormi #proudmama #love,” she wrote on Instagram.

The video is a message to Stormi from her parents, friends and family — which is a really lovely idea, but not so convincing seeing as it’s been posted for everyone else in the world to watch first. Or maybe I’m just being cynical.

It includes the baby shower where Jenner’s besties, clad in silk pyjamas, deliver such wisdom as “What if she’s like, anti-make-up?” as an example of the very worst thing any of them could conceive for the child.
I mean, imagine if your daughter didn’t want to live in your lip gloss world, it would be, like, totally hideous. But it’s OK, I’m sure they’ll school her in the art of selfies by the time she’s two and she’ll have her own vlog at three.

The thing is, what first time mum Kylie, 20, and her buddies don’t understand is your children usually grow up to be the opposite of you, no matter your best intentions. And while I’m sure they are a loving and caring family, a part of me hopes she is allowed to aspire to something a little deeper than how big your lips are — even though, admittedly, Kylie’s cosmetic company, built on her best-selling lip kits has made her a $355 million fortune. At 20. So what do I know?

Kylie proudly showed off Stormi’s shoe closet with racks of baby shoes and wardrobe with scores of designer dresses and onesies. And I don’t blame her for that — if I had her income, I’d buy designer goodies for my kids too.

Just as long as she realises Stormi isn’t a dolly. She’s her own person. And that’s how it should be.

So before Stormi discovers the world of make-up and manicures, selfies and belfies, maybe, just maybe, she might find there’s a whole other world out there for the taking.

Stormi could be a Nobel scientist, the President, an astronaut. She could be a doctor, an actor, a novelist. She could make her mark on the world in so many more ways than a selfie.

Imagine. Now that would break the internet.
