This is a blatant attempt by Labor to buy votes

Bill Shorten has refused to say who will be his border protection minister if he wins on Saturday and we aren’t getting anything beyond cliches on immigration policy detail. What he has told us is just for votes, writes Peta Credlin.

Labor doing its best to 'buy votes'

A couple of days ago, the Prime Minister confirmed reports from officials that asylum seekers on Nauru and Manus Island were not accepting offers of resettlement in countries like the US, in the hope of a change of government in Australia.

Those already in the US had earlier sent back messages that welfare was non-existent, you had to work and family reunion migration was near impossible.

Repeatedly questioned by journalists this week, Bill Shorten refused to say who will be his border protection minister if he wins on Saturday.

Throughout the campaign, no one has been prepared to debate Peter Dutton, and policy detail beyond cliches has been hard to get from Labor.

For example, will Labor sign up to the UN’s Global Compact for Migration, which the Coalition (and the US and others) has rejected as a backdoor weakening of our borders?

Already we know Labor will give 200,000-plus visas to the elderly parents of migrants so that they can live out their final years here with all the first-class support services our country can provide. The Liberals offer these visas too but they’ve capped them at 15,000 per year. Anyone can see this is a blatant attempt by Labor to buy votes.

It’s a salient reminder too, that Labor can’t be trusted on immigration.
