Peta Credlin: Thanks to the Left, we are losing our right to gender
Transgender people make up 0.05 per cent of the population, yet the left insists on significant changes that will destroy our social and cultural foundations, writes Peta Credlin. We should all be worried.

Have you ever wondered why so much that we once took-for-granted is now under severe challenge?
Do you feel like your country, indeed the world, has changed more quickly in the last 15 years than it did, say, in the 50 before? How is it “the long march of the left through the institutions” seems to have come so far, so fast?
Official statistics put the number of transgender Australians at 1260, or 0.05 per cent of the population, yet rather than deal with these occurrences sensitively, the rest of us are losing our right to our gender.
In Tasmania, you now have to apply to put your infant’s gender on their birth certificate. If you’re 16 years of age, with no notification to your parents, you can be whatever gender you like. In Victoria, they’re going one step further, allowing people to change their gender yearly without medical advice or specialist counselling; merely because “Peter” now identifies as “Peta”.
Cricket Australia’s announcement that mums and dads could face sanction if they don’t facilitate someone identifying as a gender other than their gender of birth or current anatomical reality to play in whatever team they like, shows how far we are distorting childhood for the 99 per cent-plus kids of who just want a level playing field.

After decades of campaigning for genuine recognition of women’s sport — both grassroots and elite — we’re now throwing away these gains and opening up female competitions to men who wake up one day and say they’re women.
This is not about the truly transgender who go to hell and back to resolve their identity.
This is the left’s fight to destroy our social and cultural foundations — a vastly different thing, and vastly more worrying.
