Miranda Devine: Hillary Clinton needs to get over it. She lost the election

Hillary Clinton is baaack. And she’s not fooling anyone with her book tour. This is a clear attempt to return as an election candidate, writes Miranda Devine. That’s as obvious as her spite towards Trump.

Democrats 2020: Biggest weaknesses that Trump will exploit

Hillary Clinton is baaack. She’s embarking on a “Gutsy Women Tour” kicking off tonight in Brooklyn, ostensibly to promote a new book on “gutsy women” she’s written with her daughter, Chelsea.

What exquisite timing to trail her coat as the last resort candidate to combat Donald Trump in 2020.

“The objective is to field whoever is the strongest candidate to defeat Donald Trump”, she told CBS on the weekend. Who, moi?

Losing the 2016 election “was like applying for a job and getting 66 million letters of recommendation and losing to a corrupt human tornado,” she said.

“It doesn’t kill me because he knows he’s an illegitimate President.”

She can scarcely contain her delight at the Trump impeachment inquiry.

She can’t stop ripping into the “corrupt human tornado”, and mere “occupant of the “Oval Office”, and muttering darkly about “funny things” which cost her the presidency.

“Three years after the historic election of 2016, she is still grappling with defeat,” intoned Jane Pauley on CBS Sunday morning, by way of introduction.

“How ARE you doing now,” Pauley asked Hillary, voice oozing with compassion. “And what are the metrics by which you know-how you’re doing on any given day?”

It was if she were talking to a cancer patient. But it was just Hillary, self-engrossed, artificially calm, eternally aggrieved, her mute daughter sitting beside her like a human prop.

“Personally, I’m doing well and having my grandchildren … has been a gift beyond measure,” she replied.

“I feel very blessed. I feel good. But I can’t deny that a big part of me cares deeply about what’s happening in the country and what I fear is the damage that’s being done to our future.”

This is the great Hillary psychodrama which has consumed the Democratic Party for almost three years.

She is the real human tornado — an F5 of rage and indignation and spite and pain.

It’s not just the President she and her sore loser party want to impeach, it’s the 63 million deplorables who voted for him. Like the British elites who refuse to honour Brexit, they think the voters are illegitimate.

They have been trying to cancel the last election since November, 2016, and have driven themselves mad in the attempt.

Their impeachment gambit will almost certainly backfire and only make their task next November more difficult.

But Hillary doesn’t care. All she sees is sweet vindication.

Miranda Devine will be based in New York for the next 18 months covering current affairs for The Daily Telegraph
