Kerry Parnell: When will Thomas Markle get the memo to shut up?

Just when you think Meghan’s dad has gone quiet, he restarts his monologue of “my daughter won’t talk to me.” Kerry Parnell wishes he’d stop — the whole thing is getting very tedious.

The complicated relationship between Meghan and her father

If you want to make up with your estranged daughter – the first thing you should do is a tell-all documentary about her, said no counsellor, ever.

Surely support of Thomas Markle, father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, is stretched thin after his TV expose ran on Wednesday in the UK. While he did gain some of the British public’s sympathy, even his number one fan Piers Morgan must be finding it hard to maintain Meghan is in the wrong for cutting off her blabbermouth dad.

When will the man get the memo to shut up? Just when you think he’s gone quiet, he pops up again like a royal pain in the backside to continue his monologue of “my daughter won’t talk to me.” I wish he wouldn’t talk to us – we have been listening to the same theme for 20 months.

Let’s just recap why it is Meghan blocked him:

1) The father of the bride faked paparazzi photos getting ready for his daughter’s wedding to Prince Harry in 2018. A wedding, remember, that was taking place in a castle and being beamed around the world. No biggie.

2) After being rumbled, he suffered a heart attack (our sympathies) and left his daughter stranded up the aisle without a papa.

3) Meghan penned a letter to her dad, which he gave to a British newspaper after her friends allegedly leaked details to a US magazine.

4) Meghan ghosted Thomas and he decided the best course of action was to sell his story.

In the documentary Thomas Markle: My Story, he shared photos and videos of Meghan as a child (sure-fire way of building bridges, or rather burning them) and said Harry and Meghan are turning the monarchy “into a Walmart with a crown on.” He doesn’t think Meghan will see him again until he is “lowered into the ground in a coffin.” Probably not mate, after that statement.

“At this point, they owe me. The royals owe me. Harry owes me, Meghan owes me,” he said. “It’s time to look after Daddy.”

Erm, may I remind him of his other children, Samantha and Thomas Jr. – perhaps they could have a whip-round.

The thing is, the pre-wedding debacle was avoidable – it would have been prudent to have looked after Thomas before the big day. I do have sympathy for him and anyone whose close relatives suddenly become famous. You would lose a lot of your privacy without seeing any of the return. And I’m sorry he has been cut adrift – but no matter how genuine he says is his pain, even he must recognise it’s disingenuous to sell his daughter out.

Parents are meant to want to be there for their children. Isn’t the deal you love them unconditionally, until the end?

He seems to have a lot of conditions on his love. Sure, he paid for her education when he was more financially stable, and now she’s worth millions, so she could probably upgrade his Mexican casa to something more comfortable.

Perhaps the first thing she should buy him is a pair of designer socks, with a suggestion where to put them.
