Gladys, sorry to say the trust has been broken

The dishonest denial of my stories revealing the Berejiklian government’s secret plan to offshore IT jobs to India could very well contribute to their undoing this election, writes Miranda Devine.

If the Berejiklian government loses the election in two weeks, you can lay the blame on a loss of trust with voters.

A case in point is the dishonest denial of my stories last year revealing the government’s secret plan to offshore IT jobs to India.

Roads and Maritime Services required companies tendering for a $110 million IT contract to give at least one third of jobs to overseas workers.

The Request for Proposal, dated February 7, 2018, stipulated that 20 per cent of jobs come from “offshore” in the first year, 30 per cent in the second year and an “ongoing approach to increase offshore efforts” in subsequent years of the contract.

The condition deliberately stiffs Australian IT companies.

Roads Minister Melinda Pavey bald-faced denied my stories, saying there would be “no outsourcing of public sector jobs as part of [the] tender”.

Of course, now we know that the contract has been awarded to Indian outsourcer Wipro, and at least 30 per cent of the work will be sent offshore.

I won’t hold my breath for an apology.
