Australia, go easy on Nick Cummins
THE shock outcome of last night’s Bachelor finale may have you seeing red, but there’s something we should all try to remember before we cast judgment, writes Lexie Cartwright.

I SAY this knowing full well I will be attacked by the entire female population, but give Nick Cummins a break.
This is a tricky one. And I can completely understand the national outrage.
Viewers have spent three months of our lives, as have the contestants, investing in this journey for the Honey Badger to find his soulmate.
We’ve also rooted for the beautiful girls on the show to get what their hearts are yearning for. True love.
Now we’ve been left here. With nothing.
No lovey dovey social media posts about how happy the winners are to finally go public with their relationship, no in-depth interview with the runner-up about rebuilding her life after not being picked.
On top of that, Nick has well and truly high-tailed it out of the country when we want answers.
It’s certainly not the happy ending we were all hoping for, and like most things in life, we search for someone to blame to make some sort of sense of everything.
Following Thursday night’s unprecedented finale, the former Rugby star is now being slammed for going on the show when he “clearly wasn’t ready to find love”.
But hang on a minute. What if he just didn’t connect with anyone on the level he was hoping for?
If that was the case, which at this point we have to assume it is, wouldn’t it have been unfair for him to just pick someone at the end knowing full well he wasn’t intending to pursue a future with her?
After all, let’s cast back to the dastardly Blake Garvey who PROPOSED to Sam Frost on national television only to dump her weeks later and move on with the third runner up, Louise Pillidge. He was the definition of a love rat who made shockingly selfish decisions when he was clearly confused.
Personally, I find Nick’s honesty brave. He knew the backlash that would come from this decision, to dump two women on national TV and walk away alone.
He very obviously is a decent bloke and didn’t intend on hurting anyone’s feelings.
And yes, he probably is questioning whether or not he is ready to settle down, given he had a line-up of stunning women throwing themselves at him and he couldn’t decide.
But just because he didn’t pick someone, it does not mean he’s not ready to find love.
He obviously knew deep down he hadn’t found his soulmate during this experience, and was willing to sacrifice his own reputation so he wouldn’t string anyone along.
And I think that deserves some sort of praise, even if it does take the nation a while to come around to the idea.
