Read it and weep, Sydney - 'miracle' house father charged with credit-card fraud

BELIEVERS continued to flock to the "miracle" weeping walls, despite the man who turned his Sydney home into a shrine being charged with credit-card fraud.

BELIEVERS continued to flock to the weeping walls yesterday, despite the man who turned his Sydney home into a shrine being charged with credit-card fraud.

The allegations against George Tannous, 57, appeared to have done little yesterday to dent some people's belief his dead son Mike is a messenger from God who caused an oily liquid, with healing powers, to flow down the walls of his old bedroom.

Devout followers passing through the Guildford West home said they believed only God knew the truth of the charges. For Mr Tannous's part, the police raid on his home and subsequent credit-card fraud charges are nothing more than a conspiracy against the miracle of his son.

"I would like to announce that there is a big game prepared by those who are against the miracle and the House of Miracles," the 57-year-old said. "The Westpac Bank opened this case against me while the miracle is giving fruits to the world.

"The miracle will continue always and the door is always open."

Police officers raided the Tannous home on Wednesday as part of a three-year investigation into an alleged credit-card fraud scam. Mr Tannous has been charged with six counts of obtaining money by false or misleading statements and one additional count of obtaining benefit by deception.

Now unemployed, Mr Tannous ran GLT Financial Services in 2006, before the death of his son.

Police will allege Mr Tannous was completing credit-card application forms with "fraudulent and misleading documentation" on behalf of "numerous" third parties.

Police commander Superintendent Belinda Nolan said the investigation "has nothing to do with miracle oil. It's about fraud matters".

Mr Tannous will face Fairfield Local Court on February 17.
