Western Victorian poultry farm hits the market

Administrators appointed to liquidate an embattled western Victorian free range egg company have listed its 80ha farm for sale.

Administrators appointed to run a failing western Victorian free range poultry farm have listed its 80ha property for sale, six years after the farming company was hit with a huge workplace health and safety fine.

Grampians Free Range Poultry Pty Ltd’s 79.62ha egg farm at Navarre, about 36km from Stawell in Victoria’s Wimmera region, has hit the market after the company was placed into liquidation earlier this year.

In March, Reid Stockfeeds Pty Ltd commenced an application for the winding up of Grampians Free Range Poultry Pty Ltd, before the company was placed into liquidation on April 10.

Pitcher Partners’ Lindsay Bainbridge and Andrew Yeo were appointed as liquidators at the time.

Grampians Free Range Poultry, registered in 2014, is wholly-owned by Sunshine West-based director and secretary Nhan Van Pham.

Driscoll Douglas East Rural Real Estate director Brett Douglas is handling the sale of the property, via expressions of interest closing on Monday, August 5.

The total consideration of the property consists of its 79.62ha of freehold land, sheds, plant and equipment, fixtures and fittings.

In 2018 Grampians Free Range Poultry was prosecuted by WorkSafe Victoria after a 73-year-old contractor died while working at the farm on May 29, 2016.

The company was convicted and fined $230,000 after pleading guilty for failing to provide a workplace that was safe and without risk to health.

The listing comes at a troubled time for Victoria’s and the nation’s chicken and egg sectors following the outbreak of H7N3 strain at seven Victorian farms and a single case in Terang of the H7N9 strain.
