The next supertower of the Star Gold Coast’s $2.3bn masterplan is on track to open in early 2025 after the project reached a critical milestone.
The $400m, 65-storey tower, known as Epsilon, has “topped out” with construction of the building now completed with the race now on to complete its fitting out.
Star Gold Coast hotels general manager Steve McPharlin said the milestone was a “significant moment” for the company and its grand plans around the casino and entertainment precinct, after watching the 200m-tall tower rise during the past three years.
“It’s another 65 storeys of proof of our commitment and contribution to the Gold Coast visitor and jobs economy,” he said.
“We are proud to have been able to create the platform for a multitude of jobs during construction and will now look toward ramping up the hundreds of direct employment and supply chain opportunities.”
“We are committed to investing in new accommodation inventory, more tourism amenities and a new offering of events spaces to keep the beautiful Gold Coast top of mind as a domestic and world class tourism and events destination and place The Star in a strong position to capture future growth.”
The project is being delivered by Star Entertainment Group and its consortium partners Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium.
The tower will have a 202-room, five-star hotel on its lower level, as well as 437 residential units, all of which have already been sold.
Developer Destination Gold Coast Consortium’s project director Silas Croucher said the tower had received a strong response from the market.
“It’s clear there is high demand to invest in one of the world’s most recognised and beautiful tourism destinations,” he said.
“Standing together as a beacon for the Broadbeach area, the new sister towers with their golden glass facades have significantly transformed the Gold Coast coastal skyline and we look forward to opening in 2025.”
The $2.3bn masterplan, approved by the state government nearly seven years ago, includes four towers of 65, 74, 54 and 52 storeys for a total of 1794 apartments and 518 rooms.
The Dorsett and Star Residences tower opened on Boxing Day, 2021.
The future of the remaining two towers remains unclear after the Star was wracked by a series of scandals in recent years.
The company said in late 2023 that the pair of buildings were on the backburner.
“The masterplan is still something we are working towards but right now getting tower 2 done is our priority and then we will start thinking about what is next,” then-Star CEO Robbie Cooke said in 2023.
