Sunrise star reveals new 'side hustle'

Sunrise star Edwina Bartholomew and husband Neil Varcoe have given fans a sneak peak of their new guesthouse hotel, which is undergoing a major renovation.

The pair revealed last month that they were embarking on a “new chapter” in their lives with the purchase of The Victoria, a historic hotel in Carcoar, NSW.

Built on the banks of the Belubula River in 1846, the property has a rich history.

In a video posted to Facebook, the couple gave viewers a glimpse of their new project and the charming town of Carcoar as they joked about the mammoth task that lies ahead.

“Carcoar was love at first sight,” Varcoe said in the post accompanying the clip.

“I’ve been living and working at The Victoria for a week, and she has captured my heart.

“We can’t wait to welcome guests when we relaunch. In the meantime, we’ll be releasing a web series right here on Instagram.”

The video comes just days after it emerged that Varcoe has been battling chronic fatigue for five years after being floored by a severe virus that sapped him of all his energy.

The debilitating condition affects only one in 100 people nationally and there is no official medical treatment or cure.

The clip shows the motivated pair getting stuck into work, removing clutter from the site and tearing down old curtains.

The couple’s renovation journey is sure to be a memorable one, judging by Bartholomew’s positive attitude and humour.

“We just bought this house to turn into a hotel,” a smiling Bartholomew said in the clip.

“Do we know anything about running a hotel?”

“No, we don’t,” a deadpan Varcoe replied.

“We know absolutely nothing,” Bartholomew laughed.

A clearly chuffed Varcoe revealed in clip that the 177-year-old property still had its original cellar.

In a cute touch, the couple’s adorable two children even make a cute cameo in the video, with youngest child Tom appearing to say “uh-oh” at the mammoth renovation task.

Sunrise news presenter Bartholomew has described the new venture as her “side hustle” in addition to her TV role and her luxury farmhouse retreat, known as Warramba, in Capertree Valley.

“We’re calling it The Victoria, it’s a rural town called Carcoar, which is smack bang between Orange, Bathurst and Cowra,” she said.

Varcoe said the town had “an amazing restaurant, a beautiful homewares store and a great pub”.

“Over the next 12 months, we will renovate, take care of our two kids and our dog and travel back and forth to Sydney for my day job,” Bartholomew said.

The new project comes after the couple sold their Sydney home in March.
