PROMINENT Cairns property investor Alex Sekler is selling a property in a prime spot that he purchased just nine months ago.
The modest Queenslander at 231 Esplanade Cairns North was passed in at auction before ultimately selling to Sky Commercial – whose directors are Alex Sekler and corporate finance specialist Anna Cheyda – for $2.87m last September.
The unpretentious four-bedroom Queenslander was built in 1940 and while it has many of the typically engaging features of a Queenslander such as coloured glass windows, the property has obvious development potential.
It is on a 765sq m block with a development application for three boutique apartments valid until 2026.
Property records indicate it has been rented for $570 a week.
Mr Sekler’s Sky Commercial bought the historic Cairns Post building at 22 Abbott St in June last year for $3.148m.
It is believed the heritage-listed building will be redeveloped into apartments.
No houses on the Esplanade have changed hands in the last 12 months, according to CoreLogic data, although plenty of units have sold.
RE/MAX agent Udo Jattke is the selling agent.
Mr Sekler has a 10 lot development under way on absolute beachfront land at Kewarra St in Kewarra Beach.
It is understood Mr Sekler is about to list his palatial home at 46 Kewarra St again – it was briefly on the market last year with an agent spruiking it could fetch up to $12m.
Mr Sekler also has two adjoining ultra-luxurious beach houses at 1-3 Peacock St, Trinity Beach on the market for $6m and $6.5m apiece.
