School camp site at Burleigh headland up for sale for first time in 80 years

The future of the largest remaining private piece of land on the Burleigh headland can be revealed as the once quiet suburb booms into the Gold Coast’s own Bondi Beach.

The largest remaining private piece of land on the Burleigh headland is on the market for the first time in nearly 80 years.

The 3809sq m Rudd St site has been owned by the Christian Youth Council (CYC) Australia since 1945 and has long been used for hosting youth camps.

The “once in a lifetime” sale is being conducted by Colliers and its new owner is expected to redevelop the site for a residential project.

James Crawford, director of Colliers Investment Services said that an expression of interest campaign will run through until July 13.

“This is largest private land holding available on the Burleigh headland and without doubt, is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” he said.

“There has been a lot of focus on Burleigh Heads as one of the leading residential destinations in Australia and this site is accordingly expected to see some incredible interest.”

It is the latest in a $5bn wave of development and infrastructure which is transforming the once-sleepy village into a home of celebrities and expensive property.

CYC Burleigh director said the organisation was planning to relocate to the Sunshine Coast.

“We have been successfully hosting camps for school aged children at Burleigh since 1945 and this location is amazing,” he said.

“After many years, we have simply outgrown this facility and around 18 months ago we purchased land on the Sunshine Coast that will allow us to increase our capacity and camp amenity.”

“In the short term CYC will be signing a lease at $500,000 a year to continue operating camps from the site while the buyer goes through their approval process.”
