A LUXURY property that blurs the lines between house and resort has been named the best new home in Cairns at the building industry’s night of nights.

Eastbuild Designer Homes took out the 2021 HIA Cairns Home of the Year award for a breathtaking nine-bedroom home at Shambhala Place in Palm Cove.

The top gong was accompanied by an impressive haul of other honours for the immaculate residence at the black-tie HIA-Pioneer North Queensland Cairns Housing and Kitchen and Bathroom Awards.

It is easy to see why.

With a spectacular 25m pool, stone and marble finishes and impeccable workmanship, it is the kind of home that most people only occupy in their dreams.

Eastbuild director Ron Easterbrook said the Melbourne owners planned to move their family to Palm Cove now the immense project was complete.

“The brief was to design and construct a large home that enabled the client to entertain family on occasion,” Mr Easterbrook said.

“The bespoke home features very high ceilings, stone, marble and timber features with the centrepiece being the 25m glass mosaic glass mosaic swimming pool.

“We’re very happy that we were able to complete this project on time and on budget throughout some difficult times with resources and material supplies.”

The home took nine months for the design, engineering and certification phase, followed by 18 months of construction.

It was also won gongs for best custom-built home, bathroom, outdoor project, culstom-build home over $1m and new bathroom over 8sq m.

Eastbuild also shared in another three awards with Pacific Kitchens for joinery projects in the home.

HIA Cairns and FNQ manager Shane Moon said the awards program was a demonstration of the local building industry’s commitment to workmanship.

“The winning projects are second-to-none and reveal the top quality homes being built in far north Queensland. Winners can be truly proud of their achievements,” he said.

MiHaven’s Eric Latham was awarded North Queensland apprentice of the year while MiHaven also took home three honours in its first year entering the awards.

Artizan Cabinets took home the prestigious kitchen of the year award, alongside kitchen design and renovated kitchen over $25,001.

Eastbuild and the other major winners will now duke it out at the North Queensland awards in Townsville on November 12.
