A planned $300m tower in central Surfers Paradise will become the first new development on the Gold Coast to have communal electric cars for its residents as construction nears.
Malaysian developer MRCB International has signed a deal with mobility company Outbound to have a fleet of electric cars in the 51-storey 26 Vista in lieu of cars.
Residents will have a custom-made smartphone app which will allow them to reserve and access the cars.
MRCB International CEO Ravi Krishnan said it was important for new developments to be more sustainable for the environment and “reduce the need for private car ownership”.
“We’re incredibly excited by the prospect of 26 Vista becoming one
of the sustainability leaders on the Gold Coast. We are proudly moving away from gas and have now unveiled a sustainable transport option for residents, two initiatives that are more commonplace interstate but rarely explored within Gold Coast developments,” he said.
Outbound CEO Luke Rust said the vehicles would be ready to go when the tower is completed in 2026. “We are delighted to embark on this progressive collaboration with MRCB International for their iconic Gold Coast residential development, 26 Vista,” he said.
“The project is a real showcase of what’s possible when developers prioritise convenience, luxury and sustainability for the benefit of their residents.
“Electric car sharing is an accelerating trend in buildings around the world and we are excited to be pioneering the concept in Queensland.”
The MRCB tower will have 280 units and will be the company’s third Australian project.
MRCB is a wholly owned subsidiary of the publicly listed Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad.
The company bought the site in September 2021. The tower will have six levels of parking, including four in the basement and two in its podium.
In July the company unveil plans to build the Gold Coast’s highest residential pool, which only be open to residents of the tower’s three or four-bedroom units which will all sit above the 33rd floor.
