100 people were evactuated from a Penrith hotel as fire broke out

Police have established a crime scene following a fire at a hotel in Penrith last night in which 100 people were evacuated.

Police have established a crime scene following a fire at a hotel in Penrith last night.

About 9.10pm yesterday police and other emergency services were called to a hotel on Memorial Avenue, due to a fire.

Police from Penrith Local Area Command as well as NSW Fire and Rescue attended the scene and found the premises alight.

About 100 people were evacuated from the premises however no-one was injured.

The fire has been extinguished and police have established a crime scene which will be examined by fire investigators and specialist officers.

At this stage it appears that there is a significant amount of damage to the hotel.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established.

The Great Western Highway was closed for a period of time between Penrith and Emu Plains to allow NSW Fire and Rescue access to water.
