The pandemic has seen regular life turned upside down and the effects have impacted our four-legged friends as well.

Pups are lonely and confused. Especially those in shelters looking for forever homes.

In a bid to combat that, The Social Dog Company has come up with an innovative campaign that is designed to find unwanted dogs new homes and, boost local community spirit as well.

The community initiative looks like this: the main focus is to shine a light on dog adoption and fostering by attaching flyers of shelter dogs to local food and beverage takeaway/delivery orders.

This way local business is supported and doggos too.

Founder of The Social Dog Company, Tatum Brown, initiated the concept after her dog-orientated event business, which raises funds and awareness for local rescues, came to a standstill thanks to COVID-19.

“At a time when shelters are closing, facility staff being laid-off, and volunteers restricted, our four-legged friends are experiencing extreme isolation, and remaining homeless for longer periods of time,” says Tatum.

“In addition, dogs in need of surrendering have no where to be placed.”

That was concerning to Tatum and so she decided to do something about it.

At first she was unsure exactly what she could to help, but then she had a brainwave.

“Getting creative during hard times and taking advantage of the newly enforced takeaway/delivery model, I contacted several business in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney,” she says.

She asked these businesses if they would be willing to attach flyers showcasing dogs in need of forever homes to the meals they delivered.

Many jumped at the chance, the first being Bondi Rumba.

Adrian Mason, owner of Bondi Rumba, did not hesitate to get involved. In fact, he is delighted to have done so.

“I have been focusing on all the positives that have come out of this pandemic,” he says. “And although we are socially distancing, I have never felt so connected to my community thanks to initiatives such as this one.”

Adrian encourages dog lovers to consider getting involved with this campaign, which he describes as amazing. And if you’re not able to adopt a dog he recommends you choose another community initiative or just spend some time and/ or money locally. It all helps, says Adrian who adds, “We are all in this together.”
