THE Western Sydney Wanderers fairytale has taken the team to the top of the ladder after a 1-0 win over Central Coast Mariners.

A late goal to Labinot Haliti at Bluetongue Stadium on Saturday was enough to give the Wanderers their eighth consecutive win - an A-League record. It also meant the Wanderers have now beaten every team in the competition.

Coach Tony Popovic said his team would continue to concentrate on only their next game.

"The players deserve the credit and they keep performing and when they are not at their best like (Saturday night) they find a way to get a result," Popovic said.

"Eight wins in a row shows (the players are) not getting complacent and they certainly won't be next week. That doesn't guarantee a result against Wellington but I can guarantee you they'll be well prepared for that game."

The win in front of a crowd of 18,721 inflicted the first home loss home on the Mariners this season.
