WESTERN Sydney Wanderers are ready to fight the Central Coast Mariners for the A-League minor premiership after defeating Melbourne Victory 2-1.
WESTERN Sydney Wanderers are ready to fight the Central Coast Mariners for the A-League minor premiership after defeating the third-placed Melbourne Victory 2-1 on Saturday.
The club's sixth consecutive win lifted them to one point behind the ladder leaders.
Assistant coach Ante Milicic said the club will look at themselves rather than at the table.
"They've been the pace setters all year," Milicic said.
"We get to play them soon at their ground, but we have to look at our own performances first.
"If we do what we we know we do right - play well and to our strengths - we will finish closest to the Mariners."
Marquee player Shinji Ono scored the winning goal for the Wanderers after Iacopo La Rocca opened the scoring against the Victory.
The team has now turned their attention to their home match against the Perth Glory this Saturday.
Milicic said the Glory will be hungry for another victory after beating the Mariners 2-1 over the weekend.
"All these teams want to win and make the finals," he said.
"There is not a big difference between a lot of these sides.
"Nothing surprises but we will focus on ourselves and prepare well this weekend."
