JUNIOR rugby union players in western Sydney had the chance to develop their skills with the NSW Waratahs development team running a clinic at Nepean Rugby Park last Thursday.

Waratahs mascot Tah Man together with star player Wycliff Palu were crowd favourites.

Palu was excited to meet so many youngster eager to learn how to play rugby union.

"I remember when I was a kid (professional) players would come out and you wouldn't know their names but just seeing players wearing Waratahs gear was exciting," he said.

"It is awesome to see so many kids out here enjoying it."

Shute Shield side the Penrith Emus also had their season launch on the same night, attended by special guests Waratahs head coach Michael Cheika and captain Dave Dennis.

The Emus will start their season away to Warringah tomorrow.

"All the trial matches are done, now we are looking forward to the start of the season," Emus coach Teki Tu'ipulotu said.

"There has been an improvement, not only with the players attitude but also culture wise throughout the pre-season."
