Western Sydney Wanderers’ Baccus brothers have opposition defences seeing double
OPPOSITION defences will be seeing double when they take on the Western Sydney Wanderers this season.
OPPOSITION defences will be seeing double when they take on the Western Sydney Wanderers this season.
The name Baccus is set to appear twice on the side’s National Youth League team sheet throughout the season with the signing of Kings Park brothers Keanu and Kearyn.
Kearyn Baccus, 24, is on the cusp of breaking through as a regular member of Tony Popovic’s A-League side after joining the former Asian Champions in November 2014 after a stellar season with Blacktown City in the NSW Premier League.
Younger brother Keanu, 17, has followed a similar path.
The recently graduated Crestwood High student was called into the Wanderers NYL team after winning the under-18 NSW Premier League title with Blacktown City.
Kearyn said it had been a new experience lining up against his brother in training.
“Because of our age gap we haven’t played on the same team before so it has been a little different seeing Keanu at training,” he said.
“Keanu is with the youth team but he has been called up to train with the first team which is great for him.”
Keanu said his brother’s football career had always been an inspiration.

Wanderers defender Scott Jamieson makes happy homecoming
“Watching Kearyn play in Spain with Real Sociedad and in France with Le Man’s was really exciting,” he said. “I was so proud of his success and it spurred me on to work harder at my game.
“We’ve always been really supportive of each other so to be able to play together at the same club is a rare opportunity.”
The pair live together in their family home at Kings Park and said they had their parents Lee-Ann and Byron Baccus to thank for their success.
“Since we were little, Mum and Dad have always taken us to football and encouraged us to pursue our dreams,” Kearyn said.
“I imagine they are really proud of both Keanu and I.”
The pair will give it their all at training over the next few weeks when the A — league season kicks into gear.
Kearyn hopes for a return to the Wanderers A-League side when they host Wellington on Saturday and Keanu will look to cement his spot in the NYL team against Sydney FC.
