Twelve hundred runners assembled at the Penrith Regatta Centre on Saturday to participate in the annual Atmosphere Health and Fitness Club Western Sydney Marathon.
The runners competed for glory in the marathon, half marathon, 10km and 5km runs on a perfect sunny day.
Admin and marketing co-ordinator at the Regatta Centre Julie-Anne Hawker said the atmosphere on the day was “amazing”.
“Everyone was cheering on each runner regardless of whether they knew them or not, and there were a lot of families enjoying the day as well,” Ms Hawker said.
“The feedback from everyone was great. They love the flat fast course and we had a lot say that they did a PB.
“They loved the friendly atmosphere and the fact that the packs are smaller so they don’t get pushed by other runners at the start.”
There were a host of new faces among the winners of the events, including Raymond Wareham and Heidi Rickard, male and female winners of the marathon.

The Western Sydney Marathon was the first of a list of big races happening at the Regatta Centre in the coming weeks, including the Nepean Triathlon and the IRONMAN 70.3.
