The Wanderers plan to go one better than their audacious semi-final victory against Brisbane Roar last week to clinch the Hyundai A-League 2016 football grand final in Adelaide on Sunday.

To put on a performance better than the exciting semi-final will be a tough act but the Western Sydney Wanderers are determined to win their first championship.

The grand final clash at the Adelaide Oval will see either Adelaide United or the Western Sydney Wanderers FC claim their first ever Hyundai A-League Championship Trophy.

Wanderers star forward Romeo Castelen is confident his team will triumph in Adelaide if they play good football and said the team had showed heart again in the semi-final at Pirtek Stadium.

He said they would be backing up well again on Sunday: “It’s a new game, this game (semi-final) we have to put the win behind us. Physically you have to recover, we have to focus on the next game; you go to finals to win them.”

Castelen said there was no need to motivate players because the thought of playing in the finals was motivation enough.

“I don’t think you need to influence or motivate players anymore in finals this is not something you do every week or every year.

“So this is the moment — you have to go in there to make history; we will be prepared to work hard and give Adelaide the respect they deserve and we will be ready.

“We have to go there (Adelaide) and get the job done and make history again.”

Castelen said they would prepare well to be ready for a big match.

Asked how he would improve on his semi-final hat-trick, Castelen said the feat was a great step towards winning the grand final.

He said this season’s squad was different from those Wanderers’ players who had played in the previous two grand finals and lost.

“You cannot take things from the past into this game.”

“You have to approach it like a one-off game.”

“We’ been top of the table for a long time, we played some great football for preparation everything will be the same, we do this from the beginning of season.

“If we play good football we will come out on top.”
