Not since 1999 has the Penrith City Softball Association had both a boys and girls representative team take the double win at State Championships.

The under-13 Boys and Girls PCSA Representative teams had their State Championships recently and were both crowned undefeated State Champions.

“The boys were defending champions, they were undefeated for two years running,” PCSA vice-president of rep affairs Jo Beach said.

“The girls were undefeated this season as well, so both teams went through the whole state championships undefeated and PCSA is a very proud association.

“For the girls it’s been a long time coming. It’s been 19 years since we’ve won a title for the under-13s.”

In a gutsy effort, the girls, under the guidance of head coach Roger Lucas, defeated Manly in the final 9-5 after being down 4-2 in the second innings.

The boys, with head coach Darren Cox, only had seven runs scored against them over the whole weekend, beating MacArthur in a tight final 2-0.

“There’s a lot of training that happened in the season, and the goal is for each of the kids to grow and learn and as a team come together,” Beach said.

“We have some really awesome coaches and support staff. Just the time they put into it, they teach the kids to believe in themselves and to never give up.”

The under-15 boys and girls have their State Championships in two weeks.
