The Penrith Panthers State League took on the Sydney Blue Sox in an exhilarating exhibition game which ended in a 2-2 tie on Saturday.
The game was very much a pitching duel with the Panthers side featuring current and potential Blue Sox players.
A lead-off walk and stolen base saw Sydney take an early 1-0 lead, but Penrith didn’t say die, testing the professional side scoring two runs in the eighth inning to take a late 2-1 lead.
Sydney retaliated in the bottom of the eighth loading the bases with no outs.
Trent D’Antonio then scored from the third on a Jordan Lindsay sacrifice fly off Dae-Sung Koo, tying the game at two.
Both teams failed to get anything started in the final frame, ending the closely contested exhibition in a tie.
Blue Sox head coach Jason Pospishil said this season was shaping up to be a promising one.
“We’ve assembled a really strong roster. We’ve got some really experienced guys and some high-level upcoming talent that have just signed professional contracts,” Pospishil said.
They’ve recruited some minor league players from the MBL: four from the Arizona Diamondbacks and one from the Colorado Rockies.
“They are full-time professionals so that adds to the professionalism of our team,” Pospishil said.
