It was a hitting affair at Penrith Baseball complex on Sunday when strong winds lead to a crazy game between the Penrith Panthers and the Central Coast Marlins in State League Baseball.
Penrith coach Shane Summerford said the game that ended 26-24 for the home side was “out of control”.
“In the fifth inning we were down 10 runs and then at the bottom of that inning we scored 16 runs,” Summerford said.
“Then in the seventh we were up eight runs looking to have a 10-run lead. But that didn’t eventuate and the score line ended 26-24.”

In a game that went for almost four hours, 50 runs were scored, including eight home runs, three to Penrith’s Nathan Skinner, Rick Schwarz and Alex Johnson.
“Johnson ended up with two doubles, two singles and a home run,” he said.
“The issue was we had a 60km/h wind going from home plate into the outfield, so any ball that was hit into the air ended up being a home run or going over the fielders’ heads.”
Game two of the round will be played tomorrow and Summerford is looking forward to getting back to their style of baseball.
“The positive from the weekend’s game was we only left two runners on base all day. So we want to take that same approach into Wednesday,” he said.
