It’s time for the Western Sydney Wanderers to kick into gear, says Mark Bridge

After a scoreless draw on Wednesday it’s time for the Western Sydney Wanderers to kick into gear, says Mark Bridge.

It was good to finally get a point in the A-League after our 0-0 draw against the Central Coast Mariners on Wednesday.

We were disappointed not to get the three points. I mean, we definitely had our chances and hopefully we can take them tomorrow against Newcastle.

The strange thing about it is although we haven’t been winning, we haven’t been getting played off the park, besides the first game.

As weird as it sounds it’s sort of positive that we can be playing this bad and still be competitive.

So when we turn it on and start playing the way we can play and do it consistently, we will start getting momentum, and momentum in the A-League is key.

You bag a few wins in a row and you’re right back up there, which is what we need to do before we head to Morocco for the Club World Cup.

We are really going to need the full depth of our squad this season.

I think we fielded the youngest-ever A-League team against Perth Glory last week, which is great for the club and great for them to get that experience; they did well despite the 2-1 loss.

It’s mainly lapses in concentration in defence that has been our problem so far.

The travel has also been very tough, and on top of that the different time zones have been killing the boys.

After returning from Saudi Arabia we flew to Wellington and then Perth, which are at opposite ends of the scale. And then just as we will start to adjust again well be flying to Morocco.

So the sleeping has been tough and I know a few of the boys, including myself, have been taking full advantage of sleeping tablets.

But the home games now will help and this is where we need to pick up some points before we go away.

I think against the Jets we need to get back to what we’re good at – strangling teams with our structure.

We have been guilty in the past few games of being a bit open defensively and we were getting punished.

Wednesday night was better, so hopefully that gets back to normal and we start destroying teams like we used to (it always sounds easier than it is) and start winning for the fans.
