MOST three-year-olds have only just perfected their walk but, by then, Georgia Ristevski was already a budding gymnast.
Georgia started up in the sport at Penrith YMCA, where she has continued to train for the past 10 years.
“I started to compete in Level 3, when I was about six or seven years old,” she told the Penrith Press.
“I like learning new skills and challenging myself, and I like competing.”
A NewsLocal Junior Sports Star award nominee, Georgia, of Emu Heights, trains 16 hours a week and contests other young gymnasts in vault, bars, floor and beam.
Georgia said she favoured vault and floor and it shows, as she placed fourth in both at the WAG Level 7 Gymnastics State Championships.
Her result qualified her for the NSW Border Challenge Team, competing this weekend in Queensland.
“I am just doing a lot of training. The first day is for teams and the second day is individual,” Georgia said.
The gymnast was nominated by her mother, Megan.
“It is her first year at high school, so it is a bit of a challenge with homework and the gym, but she does quite well,” Mrs Ristevski said.
In the near future, Georgia said she wanted to take on a national competition.
She eventually plans to secure a coaching role in the sport, to “see little kids go through the same experience I did and help them”.
