Penrith Emus may be on the wrong end of scores in their recent matches but the club’s fans continue to barrack for their team and will be back in force on Saturday to celebrate Back to Penrith Day.
The celebrations start for the 51 year-old club from 10am as they take on their formidable and traditional foes Parramatta.
Coach Jeremy Paul said he expects an enthusiastic crowd.
“It’s our local derby and we’ll have a lot of entertainment for children including a minis sevens match, jumping castles and food and drinks,” he said.
The club traditionally plays Parramatta on Back to Penrith Day.
All ex-players, members and fans are invited to get down to the ground and cheer on the Emus.
He said fans cans stick around for a catch up drink and dinner in the clubhouse after the matches.
Dinner costs $15 adults and $5 children.
Paul said the Emus had experienced a tough ride this year but the players had galvanised and knew where they wanted to get to with their games.
“I know the scores have not been good but it does not reflect the hard work the players put in which is difficult for them,” he said.
“We have 35 players in the first grade and 22 are debutants so that sums up where we are at and how we are rebuilding.”
