SKEET shooting star Josh Bell fell short of a medal while competing at the Olympic qualifying rounds in Sydney.
The 21-year-old from Luddenham shot well throughout the two-day event finishing the overall event in fourth place after qualifying in fifth position.
On day one he managed to score 70/75, while the second day netted him 45/50 as there was stiff competition from fellow competitors.
Bell is hoping to score one of the two places for the Rio Olympic Games this year but believes he will fall short this year.
“A more experience shooter will be named,” he told Penrith Press.
“My next goal would be to shoot at some of the World Cup events throughout the year.”
His next ambition is to qualify for a spot for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane, then ultimately leading to the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020.
Earlier in the year, Bell shot against the world’s best at the Qatar Open.
His nerves got the better of him on the first day as he scored 42/50 but did superbly on the second day to only miss two shots with the second highest score in the field of 92 competitors with 73/75.
His overall score of 115/125 meant he finished 28th among the world’s strongest shooters.
“It was really close over there,” he said.
He is now hoping to attend more World Cups throughout this season, his two top choices being Azerbaijan and San Marino.
He is hoping more sponsors will help keep his dream alive of competing for Australia at the Olympic Games one day by attending these World Cup competitions.
Although he believes he will fall short, it is still yet to be seen if he can take the second and final spot at Rio, as Olympic selections are announced on April 11.
