PENRITH Baseball Club won the State League Title when it defeated Macarthur Orioles 6-2 in their second of best of three grand final match at Blacktown International Sports Park.
Coach Shane Summersford said Macarthur proved to be a formidable team in both grand final matches.
“We stuck to our game plan and pitched well and scored runs at crucial stages of the game,” he said.
Summersford said it was great to achieve back-to-back championships because the last time the feat had been achieved was more than 10 years ago.
“This year the competition was strong,” he said.
He said the teams had to battle for the top four positions right up to the last round.
Summersford said for Penrith to win the last 10 games, including the final series, was a big achievement.
Summersford said pitcher Koo Dae-Sung played an exceptional game in the finals.
“Jacob Younis who played at third base received the MVP for the finals series, he was consistent through the finals.”
Summersford said at the start Penrith trailed 1-0 before equalising only to see Orioles lead again at 2-1. “We tied with Macarthur at 2-2 before making four more runs to win 6-2.”
