A LACK of progress on the proposed Prospect Highway upgrade is a “broken promise” from the State Government to the people of Blacktown, according to Blacktown state Labor MP John Robertson.

Planning and public consultation for the project took part in 2014 with $4 million allocated in last year’s budget but traffic snarls and congestion are set to continue on the stretch of road between St Martins Cres and Reservoir Rd with no construction funding included in the 2015-16 NSW Budget.

Mr Robertson and opposition Maritime and Freight spokeswoman Jodi McKay inspected the site of the pledged upgrade last week.

The main features of the upgrade would include new bridges over the M4 Motorway and Great Western Highway. It would also comprise a two-way link road between the Great Western Highway and the Prospect Highway, with traffic lights at either end.

“The government has not committed a single dollar to commence construction on this important link, despite spending four years talking about it,” Ms McKay said. “This is a vital piece of missing infrastructure for the people of western Sydney.”
