TALL and talented, Tatiana Beaumont is a 178cm high basketball player.
The 14-year-old is training harder than ever ahead of the Australian Junior Championships, held next month in Victoria, as she recently found out she made the NSW U16 Metro team.
“That was really big for me,” Tatiana said to the Penrith Press.
“Last year I was bottom age and I made the reserve, and this year, now I’m top age, I actually made the top 10 best players.”
As a child, Tatiana was more interested in soccer until she watched older sister, Natalia, play basketball and “saw how cool and fun” the game could be.
“I got serious about it when I was nine years old, I went to every (Basketball NSW) camp I could go to and at every training session I put a lot of work and effort” she said.
“Basketball is the best thing for me; if I am having a bad day I want to get on the court and I will just forget about everything.”
The Year 9 student, who attends Westfields Sports High School, dedicates about 22 hours a week to practice.
She is an all-rounded basketballer but feels “most comfortable” on the wing.
Our latest Junior Sports Star nominee has been in the school’s u15s team since Year 7 and was last year the youngest player in the opens team, which she is once again playing in for 2016.
Tatiana, of Emu Heights, is a member of the Penrith and Districts Basketball Association in Cambridge Park, and is a Penrith Panthers representative player.
“I would love to play for Australia one day, or go to college or university for basketball and play for them.”
