MAY the force be with sci-fi lovers to live long and prosper at Walter Crossley’s Doonside garage sale on Saturday.

Taking part in the Garage Sale Trail for the third time, Mr Crossley said his sale was a great stop for those adding to their own Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter collections.

The collection includes figurines, posters, chess sets, including a set similar to one used in the first Harry Potter film.

“I also have a Star Trek plate that has all five captains and a certificate of authenticity — I don’t think they make them anymore.

“I’m not a massive fan of Star Trek and thought someone else will appreciate them,” Mr Crossley said.

His mint-condition collection started when Mr Crossley was 13 years old and first watched Star Wars.

His first collectable was a Luke Skywalker figurine bought from Coles by his mother.

To check out the geektastic gold mine, visit 48 Crawford Rd, Doonside, on Saturday from 9am to 4pm.

Mr Crossley is one of 10,000 Australian households who will take part in the fifth annual Garage Sale Trail.

The community and sustainability campaign was originally launched in the UK.

The councils of Brighton and Hove, Hackney and Todmorden got involved in a bid the help reduce waste and combat illegal dumping.

“Taking Garage Sale Trail global is something we’ve always wanted to do,” founder Darryl Nichols said.

Mr Nichols said winning an International Green Award in 2012 was a stepping stone for the event.

“It opened door in a lot of places that you think you would never find yourself talking about garage sales,” he said.

More than 400,000 Australians are expected to hit the streets on Saturday.

“You can log on to the website and create your list of items that you want to check out on the day,’’ Mr Nichols said.

Registrations are now open at garagesale trail.com.au.
