BLUE Mountains Junior Rugby Club will field eight teams in Sydney Junior Rugby Union competitions the most in the club's six-year history.

The Lapstone-based club recently concluded its Come and Try rugby program, aimed at primary school-aged children to give them a taste of rugby union before committing to registering for an entire season.

Committee member Adam Fletcher said: "This was our second year running 'Try Rugby', attracting nearly 50 new registrations, with the majority signing on for the upcoming 2013 season.

"The final night was a resounding success, with a special visit from the NSW Waratahs mascot Tah Man, who joined the children in seven-a-side games to round out the three-week program."

The club's Friday night minis numbers have also improved, with more teams nominated for March Mini Madness at Nepean Rugby Park over four weeks.
