A HALF-CENTURY to batter Moises Henriques helped NSW Blues secure first-innings points in their four-day match against Western Australia at Blacktown International Sportspark on Thursday.

The Blues overcame Western Australia's score of 242 before rain stopped play on the final day of the Sheffield Shield match on Sunday.

The NSW side included Seven Hills native Doug Bollinger while Western Australia had former Australian test player Michael Hussey.

In the Sydney Grade Cricket competition, Blacktown tied with North Sydney on Saturday. Both sides were bowled out for 242 runs at North Sydney Oval.

Timothy Doonan (52) and Nathan Sowter (45) topscored for Blacktown with the bat and Corey Collymore took 5-47 with the ball.

North Sydney posted 242 in their first innings on day one, with Blacktown starting the second day’s play at 0-5.

Blacktown lost a couple of early wickets with Scott Rodgie removing both openers before the score had passed 30.

A 61-run third wicket stand between Rohit Ramanathan (39) and Matthew Foster (30), followed by a 56 run stand between Foster and Tim Doonan (52), then put Blacktown in front.

However, the game was quickly back in the balance when Glenn Aitken removed both Foster and Doonan in quick succession, with Nic Bills claiming the wicket of Grant McCartin for a duck to leave Blacktown 6-155.

Fortunately for Blacktown, Nathan Sowter and captain Tony Clark dug in, putting on 74 runs for the seventh wicket and taking the score to 229 before Sowter fell for 45, with Rodgie the partnership breaker.

This was the start of a disastrous collapse for Blacktown, who lost their last four wickets for just 13 runs.

Soon after Sowter fell, Nathan Hinton was run out without facing a ball. Then two runs short of victory, Tony Clark was caught by Rob Aitken off Rodgie’s bowling.

The final pair of Corey Colleymore and Matthew Bursa levelled the scores, however, it was Rodgie who had the final say in the match, trapping Bursa lbw to tie the match, claiming his fifth wicket for the innings in the process.

Blacktown took second-grade honours after a fine bowling performance by Peter Spurr (6-28).

The first-grade side will play Parramatta at Glendenning on Saturday.
