THE coming together of old and new has led to the Penrith Rams beating the Sydney Hills Eagles 12.14 (86) to 5.5 (35) in the opening round of the Sydney AFL division one competition.
A strong second half display allowed the Rams to easily account for the Eagles at Bruce Purser Reserve, Rouse Hill, on Saturday.
Rams coach Craig Sharp was impressed with the way his team came together.
"We had a mix of new and old players and gelling under pressure was excellent," he said.
"The conditions were very wet and slippery in the first half, which kept the scores close. But we led throughout the game and as it dried up the second half was impressive.
"A lot of players were impressive, including James Denton and James Devlin, and it was good to have seven different goalkickers."
The Rams will take on last year's runners-up Southern Power at Gwawley Oval, Caringbah, this Saturday.
