Penrith Panthers switch up the halves for trial against Parramatta
PENRITH Panthers coach Ivan Cleary will tinker with his halves options after halfback Luke Walsh was ruled out of the club's Battle of the West.
PENRITH Panthers coach Ivan Cleary will tinker with his halves options after halfback Luke Walsh was ruled out of the club's Battle of the West trial against Parramatta tomorrow.
Cleary has named a full-strength squad for the match, only missing Walsh, Cameron Ciraldo and Mose Masoe due to injury.
Captain Kevin Kingston said missing Walsh will give other players the opportunity to stake their claim for a position in the team.
"We've got Tom Humble and Blake Austin chomping at the bit to play," Kingston said.
"Luke has a quad injury and I think it is more precautionary leaving him out."
The Panthers are aiming to go into the NRL season with three trial wins under their belt.
Despite winning against the Wests Tigers and Warriors, Kingston said it was the team's performance that was critical.
"Ivan has told us that it is great winning trials, but he is more interested in our performance," he said.
"I think we have done well so far and it should be a cracker against Parramatta.
"They will be hungry to bounce back after a disappointing loss last weekend and there is always some hatred between ourselves and them."
