A MULGOA showjumper will be the second Australian to reach the international federation of equestrian sport (FEI) Children's International Classic when she competes in Mexico this month.

Jessica Tripp, 14, said she would use the competition, starting on Tuesday, to gain experience.

"It's my first time competing so I am nervous but excited," said Tripp, who will compete in the 12 to 14 years division.

"I am not sure how I will go. It isn't on my own horse as we pick a horse out of a hat, so it depends on how well I go on the horse given to me.

"My ultimate aim is to get to the Olympics and win a medal."

The dream could become reality after Tripp's family bought the 654ha Fernhill Estate in Mulgoa.

Jessica's mother Brenda said the family was aiming to create an equestrian centre of excellence on the property.

"Australian riders have been going to Europe for years to train," she said.

"We'd been looking for a property for a while because of our interest in showjumping and wanting to create a centre for showjumping to train Australian athletes.

"It's really good having a track for fitness for the horses, as well as an arena where Jessica can train."

Australia's top young showjumper Tom McDermott and his family also live on the property.

McDermott is Jessica's coach and "one of Australia's best young prospects for the Rio Olympics".
